Meet the Founder,
Dr. Laurel Mellin, PhD
Dr. Mellin is a health psychologist who developed EBT during her 40 years as a professor in the School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco. She is the founder of EBT and the Executive Director of the Solution Foundation, which focuses on research and professional education on the science and practice of EBT for public health. She is actively engaged in EBT research in collaboration with UCSF and maintains a clinical practice in EBT.
"To turn around our stress-induced crisis in healthcare, health professionals need the tools of EBT."
EBT is a new paradigm for treating overeating, anxiety, depression, and common health problems.

The conceptual basis of EBT is optimizing the capacity of the prefrontal cortex to target and rewire stress-activated circuits to switch off the biochemical drives that cause emotional and behavioral health problems.
EBT has codified tools to access the emotional brain's five resilience pathways, so that patients can move past the barrier of cognitive control, dismantle stress-induced emotions (anxiety, depression, hostility, shame, and numbness), and switch self-harming circuits into self-protective wires in a few minutes. This EBT 5-Point System of Emotional and Behavioral Regulation (“The 5-Point System”) is fundamental to EBT.
After patients learn the EBT 5-Point System, they move forward and learn how to use the same skills with more precision and intensity to rewire these self-harming circuits for lasting improvements in health. The co-regulation and guidance of the EBT Provider is instrumental to their effectiveness in discovering and transforming these circuits encoded during adverse experiences and trauma.
The EBT Provider uses a biologically-based process of counseling in which the patient learns to respond to their own physiological messages to determine the most effective resiliency pathway. This EBT Physiologic Resilience Algorithm (“The EBT Algorithm”) trains patients for optimal self-regulation and self-directed rewiring.
